The pandemic has caused consumers to have a greater reliance on technology that can support their everyday lives, work and wellbeing. But how do consumers in the United States perceive the brands whose products they use in their everyday lives?
At YouGov, we understand that the publics’ impression of brands is important for developing a winning strategy. We have released this year’s technology rankings, focusing on the consumer electronics category. The brands featured have been voted by the public to have the highest overall brand health (see below for a full list).
Data was drawn from YouGov BrandIndex which measures consumer perceptions towards brands on a daily basis. The ranking examines the best performing consumer electronics brands between April 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022.
Sony, which has long been synonymous with high-quality home entertainment products, claims the top spot on our list with a score of 33.3.
Samsung comes in second with 31.5, likely thanks to the variety of consumer products it produces; it has become a household name for nearly every major house appliance and entertainment product.
LG comes in third place with a score of 30.9. After closing its mobile phone business, LG has focused on home appliances, laptops and entertainment products.
Personal computer brands HP and Dell both appear on our list with scores of 29.9 and 26.1 respectively.
Canon, one of the biggest players in the camera and printing space, has laid claim to the fifth spot with a score of 51.
Video game brand Nintendo appears on our list at slot No. 7 with a score of 25.2. While Nintendo’s latest gaming system, the Switch, has been out since 2017, the upgraded Switch OLED, launched in 2021, helped breathe new life into the much-loved gaming system.
Panasonic comes in eighth place with a score of 22.5.
Camera brands Nikon and Kodak – which produces analogue photography products now – occupy the ninth and tenth spot with scores of 21.8 and 21.6 respectively.

Methodology:
This year’s Global Consumer Electronics Rankings 2022 cover 16 markets in all (Australia, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, UAE, UK and the US). For this year’s global list, we created a shortlist of the top ten brands (based on their Index score between April 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022) in each market, creating 160 scoring opportunities in all. Our Consumer Electronics Rankings 2022 methodology awards ten points for placing first, down to one point for placing tenth in each market. The score shown in the global ranking is the total points accrued by each brand across the 160-slot shortlist.
